The capital city of Wales, Cardiff, is the 10th largest in the UK and the closet to London. Just a 2 hour train ride, from English capital, will see you arrive in this beautiful city for a day of exploration and lots of fun. With museums, art galleries, sports arenas and music venues alongside a great array of restaurants and bars, there is something for everybody in this wonderful Welsh City.

TV favourite Dr Who is filmed in Cardiff and the city is now home to the fantastic Dr Who exhibition. The Dr Who museum holds the largest collection of props and artefacts from the long running series, with costumes from every Dr Who and the chance to enter the tardis for your very own time machine adventure. If you are looking for a more traditional museum experience, head to The National Museum Cardiff. The building is actually a museum and art gallery in one, with the Welsh National Gallery taking up home in this iconic space. The gallery has over 50,000 pieces of art in total, with exhibitions rotated throughout the year. Many of the pieces were owned by the Davies Sisters including a fabulous painting by Renoir and form part of one of the finest collections of Impressionist and Post Impressionist painting outside of Paris and London. The Museum itself if a greta place for families to explore, with plenty of activities and interactive ways to get involved in its history. Four Miles outside of the city centre is St Fagan’s Natural History Museum, where you can walk around an iron age village just like it would have been back then. There are 40 original building, including churches, houses and shops, that were painstakingly moved over a 20 year period from their original destinations to form part of the museum. Cardiff Castle is also a historical destination for those who want to explore as much Welsh heritage as possible. You can take a your around the castle to learn about its 200 year history and can take part in a traditional medieval banquet, to get a true feel of how the castle was originally used.

If museums are not your thing, you can pick up a little action at Cardiff’s International Sports Village, where you can enjoy a spot of white water rafting. Not an activity for the faint hearted but one that will give adrenalin junkies a fix of white knuckle fun. For an evening of entertainment, the Millennium Centre brings together 7 arts organisations, including the Welsh National Opera, where you can enjoy a performance in stunning surroundings. There are many great restaurant, bars and traditional Welsh pubs to eat and drink at throughput the day and many wonderful hotels to stay in, if you want to extend your stay.
