York’s Shopping Streets

Duration:05:26 Views:9429

York is a beautiful and historic walled city with a wealth of heritage, leisure and culture. Just a 2 hour train journey from Kings Cross, this Yorkshire City is a popular shopping destination for people all over the UK. The city has been an important trading city since Roman times and celebrates a diverse range of shopping experiences.

Gillygate is a treasure trove of independent shops and boutiques, such as the fabulous Dog and Bone vintage store and Shine jewellery store. Gillygate is situated just outside of the city walls and is a pleasant place to spending a couple of hours shopping and drinking coffee. Goodwin Gate is also an area that is popular with fans of independent shopping, with unique craft and gift stores lining the picturesque streets.

Petersgate is the area to head to for big name brands and designer names, as is the area around York Minster. York Minster is home to luxury stores such as Crabtree and Evelyn and cashmere shop, Pure Collection. You will also find Mulberry Hall, a treasure trove of small shops and antique stalls. The list of shopping area in York goes on and on, with Coppergate home to more big brand names like Hotel Chocolat and Jack Wolfskin and the Stonegate quarter bustling with smaller shops set amongst pretty medieval buildings and stately Georgian homes.

Perhaps the most famous street in York, though, is The Shambles. The Shambles is a quaint medieval street, where the cobbles are lined with gifts shops, sweet shops, favourite big name brands and local independents like Zatchels and Chocolate Heaven. There are also plenty of cafes and restaurants around the city so that you can take a well earned break from all of that shopping. If simply cannot get enough shopping, you can head to York’s Mcarthur Glen outlet villages, where you can enjoy browsing through 160 shops offering design products at bargain prices.

Although shopping will be the main event during your trip to York, don’t miss out on visiting the magnificent York Minster Cathedral, one of the largest gothic Cathedrals in the world and houses some of the world’s greatest treasures. The orb stained glass is stunning. After your cathedral visit, take a relaxing boat trip along the River Ouse or take in a movie at the Picturehouse cinema, where you can enjoy drinks and snacks on the riverbank. To spend your stay in the stylish way possible, book into the Cedar Court Grand, the only 5 star hotel in York.

Wherever you visit in York, you are bound to shop until your drop and soak up the wonderful laid back atmosphere of this picturesque city.
