Ask people on the streets of London how they would define British style and you will hear the words, maverick, quality, subversive, classic, unique and stylish. I guess you can safely say that London is one of the fashion hubs of the world, that influences trends around the world.

British men know how to dress in a traditional way with a flicker of independent style. Fashion agendas are set in the big name design houses that line London streets and from the young hipsters that constantly reinvent classic designs. Fashion is such a creative industry and London is a hotbed of talent, that makes the scene constantly evolve.

London was the birthplace of the long trouser, the waistcoat and the iconic three piece that was catapulted out of Savile Row. Savile Row is arguably the most influential street in the men’s fashion world, housing some of the most talented craftsmen and women in the world. Savile Row designers and cutters are the best in the world, with craft skills passed down from generation to generation. A lot of British fashion has been influenced from military clothing, with jackets and lapels being born from century old wars. You can still see a strong military influence on Savile Row today.

Whilst the suit epitomises all that is good about British fashion, there is another side to mens style in the capital. With a history of subversion during eras such as punk and glam rock, men have used clothes to define their own sense of style. Rebellious men always take influences from the multicultural world that is London, making modern twists on classic styles as they go along. Designers, such as Vivienne Westwood, pioneer such freedom of style and innovation and are, again, admired throughout the fashion world.

London men and British fashion have a strong voice and it will continue to develop as the mens fashion world continue to go from strength to strength. A trip to London would not be complete without a trip around some of the best menswear shops in the world, most notably the high class selection over on Savile Row.
