Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city and one of the UK’s most vibrant destinations. Glasgow is just a 4 hour train journey from London Euston or a short 1 hour flight, if you want to make the most of your stay. Full to the brim with museums, galleries, shops, restaurants and family attractions, there is something for everyone in this buzzing city.

On the North Bank you will find the Riverside Museum, winner of the 2013 museum of the year. Designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, the museum is home to the city’s world class transport collection, giving you an insight into the history of life in Glasgow and how various modes of transport had an effect on the people of the city. With over 3000 exhibits on show, so a trip to the museum will keep you entertained for hours. Berthed alongside the Riverside Museum is the Glasgow Tall Ship, a museum that hosts a varied list of maritime related events and activities throughout the year, to give you a true taste of Glasgow’s history.

In 1990 Glasgow was named the European City of Culture, due to its world class collection of art destinations and its innovative outlook on culture. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is situated near the Glasgow School of Art and boasts the greatest collection of art, with everything from an-cient Egyptian collections to prized painting such as Salvador Dali’s Christ of St John of the Cross. The Glasgow School of Art often tops ‘must see’ lists for thousands of tourists due to its stunning 1896 by Scotland’s most celebrated artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Mackintosh spent over 20 years drawing and painting at the school and his presence is still felt there today. Outside of the city, take a stroll around Pollok Country Park, home to Glasgow’s pedigree herd of highland cattle and The Burrell collection, an impressive personal collection of over 8000 objects. The Burrell col-lection includes work by the likes of picture setting, work by Degas and Cezanne as well important pieces of Chinese and Islamic art.

After exploring the cities cultural highlights it will be time to stop for a spot of lunch. Guys Restaurant and Bar is a great choice, where you can choose from traditional dishes such as mince and tatties or a modern plate of sushi. Enjoy a glass of wine and soak up the atmosphere before head-ing to the Buchanan Street area for a spot of shopping. Glasgow has been named the best place to shop outside of London’s West End, with its abundance of high street stores as well as luxury bou-tiques and quirky independents. Make sure you do not shop until you drop as you will need to save some energy to attend one of the cities music events, of which there are around 130 every week. A UNESCO music destination, there is something to suit every music tastes, with small gigs in tradi-tional pubs to grand performance in King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut.
