Festivals
The Norfolk and Norwich Fest is the biggest arts and culture festival, that takes place in May. Festival goers can experience live music, dance, visual arts and literature workshops in this free outdoor festival that is organised by local artists. Kings Lynn also hosts a music festival in July, with music from all genres coming together to put on a show for the people of Norfolk. Sundown Festival is also a popular choice, particularly amongst the younger Norfolk crowd.
Food lovers will love the annual Norfolk Food and Drink Festival, the biggest food festival in the UK. The food festival runs for the whole month and features weekend festivals at Holkham on the North Norfolk coast, Norwich and the beautiful Brecks at Swaffham and at Slow Town Aylsham. The main event is The Moveable Feast, a unique dining experience in the Norwich countryside, where top chefs and restaurants put on the best outdoor show there is.
For something a little different, The Maritime Festival in Great Yarmouth takes place every September. This fun festival will delight lovers of all things to do with boats and the sea. Taking place along the length of the historic South Quay, featuring tall ships, shanty music and maybe even a pirate or two. If these festivals aren’t quaint enough for you, there are many more held across the county, including a crab festival, horse festival and kite festival. We did say there was something for everyone.
Culture
Aside from the great number of festivals held in Norfolk, there is plenty more cultural entertainment on offer all year round. There are dozens of theatres in Norfolk, with the Theatre Royal being the biggest. The Royal puts on plays, pantomimes and children’s shows, making it a popular weekend day out for many. Smaller theatres include Sheringham Little Theatre, a warm and friendly arts hub and The Granary Theatre in Wells-next-to-the-Sea.
For children and families, the end of pier shows in Cromer and Great Yarmouth are a fun activity during summer. The shows are a seaside classic that will make children laugh and give parents a sense of nostalgia.
