The Fashion Museum is a world class tourist attraction in a world class city. Bath is a beautiful world heritage city, that attracts thousands of visitors year after year. The Fashion Museum is housed in a grade I listed Georgian building, The Assembly Room, in the centre of the city. The museum is a must visit for fashion and history lovers, taking you on a journey from traditional Georgian clothing to modern day fashion must haves.

The world class collection of historical and contemporary dress showcases everything from handmade lace gloves to present day futuristic designs. Discover the trends that have inspired men and woman over the years and wonder what on earth possessed people to wear such outrageous designs. Cutting edge designers such as Alexander McQueen and Christopher Kane feature heavily in some of the exhibitions, symbolising an intent to bring historical dress and modern day design together.

As well as exploring the various exhibitions, you can go behind the scenes, so to speak, and dress like the Victorians did. There are replica dresses and corsets that you can try on, to feel like a Victorian for a day and to amaze at how some women managed to get into tiny corsets. There is an education room that holds regular workshops and you can book in advance for self-directed study sessions. The study sessions are ideal for fashion students, but can be booked by anybody interested in learning more about fashion history.

There are over 100,000 original objects housed in the museum, but obviously they cannot all be displayed at once. The museum rotates their collections throughout the year, putting on special exhibitions and allowing visitors a peak into the whole collections, through pictures and videos. Once you have finished browsing the wonderful collections, you can explore the fantastic book and gift shop, before settling down for a nice cup of tea.

Visiting Bath’s Fashion Museum will definitely inspire you to shop until you drop, so it is a good job that there are so many wonderful boutiques and designer stores to be found in the city. Don’t spend too much now, will you?
