Belfast is the capital city of Northern Ireland and is the largest in the country. You will arrive at George Best airport in just over an hour, from the city of London. The airport is just a 10 minutes drive from the town centre, so you can start exploring this wonderful city almost as soon as you land.
One of Belfast’s most historic attractions is the Titanic Boat Tour, the world’s only Titanic tour, which leaves from Donegal Quay and lasts for 1 hour. The tour takes in around Belfast Harbour, including the famous pump house and Harland and Wolff ship yard. You can visit the dry land where the Titanic was built and learn all about the history of the ship. Now you can relive the Titanic story as never before, at the world’s largest Titanic visitor experience, Titanic Belfast. The experience consists of a museum, visitor centre, galleries, events and much more, which will leave you going away an expert on the subject. Once you step off the boast tour, you will spot the big blue fish that is now an iconic landmark, that has tiles that are filled with information about Belfast. Legend has it that if you kiss the fish, you will receive good luck, so you best pucker up when you see it.
For a taste of how Belfast residents live, head to St George’s Market, which is full of the hustle and bustle that gives the city its unique friendly feel. Browse around the various food, gift, vintage and bric a brac stalls and dine at the market’s dining hall, where you can eat traditional Irish food before washing it down with a pint of cool Guinness. If you love Irish food, there are plenty of cafe and restaurants where you can enjoy local fayre as well as modern favourites. Seafood is particularly good in Belfast and you can eat some of the best oysters in the UK. Once you are fed and watered, you can enjoy a trip to Victoria Square shopping Centre, a centre topped by glass dome that has a viewing gallery where you can soak up views across the city. The centre is open 7 days a week and has all of the top name brands that you will need, as well as individual boutiques for that something different.
Bike tour or walking tours are valuable so that you can see as much of the city as possible in a short space of time, with some tours taking in 30 points of interest in one trip. St Anne’s Cathedral , Ulster Museum and the Botanical Gardens are just some of the highlights. At Ulster Transport Museum, you can look at vintage cars and steam trains as well as the chance to sit in a dolorean, made famous in the ‘Back to the Future film’. The area surrounding Ulster Transport Museum is filled with pavement cafes and lots of places to sit, relax and watch the world go by; arguably the best thing that you can do in Belfast.
